Contractor of the Month
Vince DiFilippo, DiFilippo's Service, Paoli, PA

Vince DiFilippo is a name many will recognize as an active contributor to the HVAC industry. He is president of DiFilippo's Service (That's Phil-ippo, not Flipo) located in Paoli, PA.

In 1998 Mainline Chamber of Commerce awarded him the Small Business of the Year Award. ACCA named Vince Residential Contractor of the Year in 1999. Then in 2001 The News named Him the Best Contractor to Work For. You may ask, why another honor?

We chose Vince as July's Contractor of The Month because of his unique story and rapid implementation of NCI practices into his company, and we feel other NCT members would benefit from his experiences in building his Performance-Based Contracting™ business.

Vince was first exposed to the industry at 10 years old when his brother hauled him around on jobs all summer…that was 32 years ago. Vince received his first training from NCI at a Boot Camp just over 6 months ago, then immediately attended a regular 2 day Air Diagnostics and Balancing seminar and became certified.

DiFilippo's Service had been a service only company for years, referring replacements and installations to another company. Just over a year ago, they decided to add replacements and installs to their offering, they never looked back.

Are we seeing a pattern forming here? Some companies have the ability to just do things different from the competition, then they prosper in spite of the different approach. When asked the keys to success in his company, Vince gives credit to his employees and the fact that they hire only the best. Then he mentioned "attention to detail...but everyone says that," and struggled to describe it because they simply live it every day. "Maybe it's the training," says Vince "or the drug testing, or the way a system has to look when we're done… it's a simple thing, but we honestly pay attention to detail, and that's what makes us so good."

One of DiFilippo's favorite jobs was an install project, the Wheelan residence. It was a low basement ceiling job, with poor access. The system had devoured two condensing units because of a tight and restrictive fitting entering the 5 ton air handler. So they split the air handler in half and made the system work - because they had to. Different? Yes. Successful? Yes.

You can visit with Vince first hand as he will be a featured speaker at the National Comfort Team Annual Conference in Memphis this September as well as at HVAC Comfortech 2005 in the special Presidential Track on Performance-Based Contracting™.

We think you'll find his approach and experiences motivating and extraordinary. Congratulations to DiFilippo's service on adding another honor to their long list of achievements - NCT's July's Contractor of the Month.
